Update on new beachfront bar set to open in coming months

Mar 09, 2025

A planning application has provided an update on a new beachfront bar in Hove.

Plans have been submitted to install illuminated advertising for the new Babble Beach Bar.

The venue is set to open in the spring of 2025 in the new Outdoor Sports Hub, which was constructed recently as part of the extensive Hove Beach Park development.

The outdoor sports hub will also contain public toilets and changing rooms, as well as serving as the new home for Hove & Kingsway Bowls Club.

The team behind the independent bar and bottle shop Bison Beer, based at 57 Church Road in Hove, will run Babble Beach Bar.

The planning application, validated by Brighton and Hove City Council on March 3, details the proposed advertising for the venue.

The application seeks advertisement consent for the installation of five illuminated signs on the exterior of the new Outdoor Sports Hub building.

The application states: "Our client has recently signed the lease to operate the first-floor cafe and as part of the lease negotiations, has agreed on external signage and branding.

"Permission is now sought for the erection of the agreed signage."

The proposed signs include a circular sign, 2,400mm in diameter, on the north elevation of the building.

This will consist of a vinyl printed aluminium disc with individual built-up letters spelling out "Babble" across the centre. The sign will be halo-lit from the rear.

Similar circular signs, 1,600mm in diameter, are proposed for the east and west elevations.

These will be positioned on the curved walls adjacent to the external stairs, at a height of approximately three metres above ground level. These will also be backlit with halo lighting.

The southern elevation will feature two signs. Above the main entrance door to the cafe, individual letters spelling out "Babble" will be erected.

Each letter will measure 500mm high and will be halo-lit.

To the right-hand side of the entrance door, a vertical lightbox sign is proposed, measuring 1,200mm x 200mm x 200mm.

This will be internally lit and will have cut-out letters spelling "Coffee."

The Hove Beach Park project was established to regenerate the underused and run-down facilities and green spaces on the seafront in West Hove by creating a new park stretching from Hove Lagoon to the King Alfred Leisure Centre.

Tennis, bowls and croquet facilities have been retained or upgraded, and padel courts added. The wheeled sports areas, including a skateboard plaza, a pump track for biking, and a rollerblading and skating area, opened in September 2024.

The project has been predominantly funded by UK Government.
