Illuminated signage at Rhyl’s Queen’s Market gets go-ahead | Rhyl Journal

Apr 08, 2025

A PLANNING application for external signage at the soon-to-open Queen’s Market in Rhyl has been approved.

In March, Denbighshire County Council applied to its own planning committee for consent to build two illuminated and three non-illuminated signs at the market.

These include:

The planning committee approved the application, on the condition that the signage is “maintained in a safe, clean and tidy condition”, cannot obscure any road traffic sign, and that no advert to displayed without permission of the site owner.

The first phase of the internal fit out work includes the installation of the furniture, lighting and CCTV.

Other essential electrical work will also be carried out inside the £12.6million building, which it is hoped will open in the summer.

The new development includes 16 individual food and retail units, a double-sided bar, and a large events space which is capable of holding events, markets or extra seating.

Telford-based Midlands Events Ltd has been assisting Denbighshire County Council with the Queen’s Market.

Its opening has been delayed by multiple companies and the council failing to reach an agreement regarding becoming the market’s operator.

The site went out to the open market via Sell2Wales in late 2022, but received no tender submissions.
